On June 13, rx 2012 U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin and members of the National Prevention Council announced the release of the National Prevention Council Action Plan.
The National Prevention Council Action Plan builds from the vision, ask goal, recommendations, and actions of the landmark National Prevention Strategy. The action plan identifies National Prevention Council commitments shared across all 17 departments and unique department actions being taken to further each of the Strategic Directions and Priorities of the National Prevention Strategy.
The National Prevention Council was created as part of the Affordable Care Act, passed in 2010. Health Promotion Advocates conceived of the idea for this Council and originally introduced this in legislation drafted in 2004. “We are pleased to see that the idea we conceived is coming to fruition and the action plan of the Council is being put into place.” said Michael O’Donnell, board chair emeritus of Health Promotion Advocates and originator of the idea for the National Prevention Council.
