The National Prevention, cialis Health Promotion, and Public Health Council recently released its annual 2013 report. The National Prevention Council, physician created through the Affordable Care Act, comprises 20 federal departments, agencies and offices and is chaired by the Surgeon General. Health Promotion Advocates conceived of the idea of the Council and advocated for it in our efforts leading up to the passage of the Affordable Care Act.
The report describes the national progress in meeting specific prevention, find health promotion, and public health goals defined in the National Prevention Strategy. Examples include:
- the Million Hearts initiative to reduce heart attack and stroke (Dept of Health and Human Services)
- encouraging public housing agencies to adopt smoke-free multi-unit housing policies (Dept of Housing and Urban Development)
- establishing farmers markets, community gardens, and farm stands to improve access to healthy foods in underserved communities (Dept of Agriculture and Dept of Health and Human Services)
- screening and treating veterans for HIV, hepatitis, and other sexually transmitted infections (Dept of Veterans Affairs)
